Akira Toriyama's groundbreaking Dragon Ball manga was released in two formats.

It began publication in November of 1984 as a serialized comic in the Weekly Shonen Jump. Occasionally some pages, and indeed whole chapters, were printed in full color, but the vast majority of the series was published in black and white. 519 chapters (Most of which were around 14 pages each!) later, the Dragon Ball series came to a close in the Weekly Shonen Jump.

Beginning in September of 1985, these weekly manga chapters were compiled into volumes of about 12 chapters each. These volumes were printed in grayscale only, so any original color pages from the Weekly Shonen Jump serialization appear in grayscale.
